In the present DTE curriculum, “Challenges in Indian education policy” is one of the core subjects.  It makes the student teachers aware of the contextual realities in which they have to work.  This subject takes into account rights as well as duties of citizens, human rights education, values and their broad features, perspectives of educational, social, economic and political development in the country and the significant land marks in the process of development in various fields.  

It helps the student teachers understand various other issues like developmental activities, urbanization, unemployment, value inculcation, political dynamics and the role of International Organisation in the promotion of education in India. 

India education policy , All the above said subject components are presented in the form of competencies.  Much focus is given to activities such as seminars, debate, Education policy in India, discussion, action research, project work, quiz programme in this syllabus.  

List of Competencies to be developed  

The student teacher ion completion of the years DTE course will acquire the following competencies:  

  1. Education policy in India, Understand the various aims of education, practices these aims in their classroom teaching and debates on the same.
  2. Knows to establish relationship between education and philosophy.
  3. Acquires the knowledge of the status and progress of education.
  4. Analyses the challenges in the pre-primary and primary education in achieving UEE; knows the national and state directives to achieve the goal of UEE.
  • Finds out solutions to the economic problems in India through educational intervention.
  • Understands the role of education for bringing about economic and social changes.
  • Understands and appreciates the cultural heritage of India .
  • Understand the relationship between politics and education in  a democratic set up.
  • Develops consciousness and right attitudes of the role of teacher in the school and society.
  • Knows about international organisations and their functions.

They take part in nearly all school activities appropriate to their age and ability, from environmental projects to hikes, India Week, Activity Week and all-school assemblies.

It helps the student teachers identify and analyse the factors obstructing the growth of literacy in the state and the concerned districts, besides reasons for poor enrolment, detention and the problems of wastage and stagnation in the schools.  

On the weekends there are gym nights, movies, concerts, skits and quizzes.

Education policy in India has a very long history. Ancient India had the tradition of 'Gurukuls'. Under this system students have to live at the 'Ashram' (abode) of the teacher and get the education. This form of the education is known as 'Guru-Shishya Pramapara'.
